Another line within the Strand collection is Synergy, which uses a process to fuse pieces of bamboo with an adhesive to form large slabs of bamboo planks. This bamboo is perfect for high traffic-areas, because it is 154 percent harder than red oak, and will stay looking like new. Synergy is available in four blends of bamboo strands, making it easy to find the perfect color for your home. Within the Traditional line there are six collections of bamboo. As with any wood flooring product in Chicago, bamboo must be cared for properly.  It is crucial that you control the humidity and temperature in your home to minimize the expansion and contraction that naturally occurs with bamboo floors in Chicago.  The temperature should be maintained between 65 and 72 degrees year round.  The humidity levels need to be between 35% and 55% year round to properly maintain bamboo and wood floors in your Chicago home.  Even if the Chicago hardwood customer follows the above guidelines, one should still expect seasonal gapping.  The width of the wood plank contributes to the amount of gapping one should expect.  As a general rule, wider planks will experience more gapping than narrower widths.  One way to minimize the seasonal gapping is to purchase engineered wood or bamboo floors rather than solid products.  The cross-ply construction used to manufacture engineered wood floors minimizes the movement within each board.  In addition, using a floating hardwood system (like Kahrs’ hardwood uses), allows the entire system to move when environmental conditions change rather than just the individual wood plank or board.
