Bamboo & Cork

Cork and bamboo have surged in popularity in recent years mainly because of their renewable nature. Builders and architects are specifying these renewable resources frequently.

Bamboo is a grass that can be repeatedly harvested from the same plant, unlike hardwood trees that require more than 60 years to mature. The bamboo stalk is split into slats and then laminated with an environmentally safe adhesive under hydraulic pressure to produce the planks used for flooring. The slats of bamboo are then boiled in a solution of water, hydrogen peroxide, and borate solution to eliminate pests and mildew, and then kiln-dried to remove moisture.

Cork flooring is manufactured from the bark of the Cork Oak tree. This tree, grown in Spain and Portugal, has a life span ranging from 150-200 years. After the first 25 years of growth, the tree is stripped of its bark. This process is repeated every nine years without any impacting the health of the tree. During each harvest, no more than 50% of the bark is removed, allowing the tree to protect itself using natural defenses. Cork-tree harvests result in practically no waste, which is better for the environment and in the long run, the consumer.

Home Carpet One works with the leading manufacturers of both cork and bamboo, and we have both products installed on our showroom floor. Come see for yourself why so many people are choosing cork and bamboo instead of more traditional flooring choices.
