There is generally a lot of buzz about the downsides and risks of carpet but if done right carpet can be a great way to add a cozy feel and sense of comfort to any Chicago space. Carpeting installed correctly is a great way to add color and pattern to your home.

The biggest problems that people are concerned with when carpeting their homes are toxic chemicals that can come with new carpet installation and the dust mites, germs, and other unhealthy particles that can be tracked in on people’s feet from the outside elements over time. Home Carpet One has a sure fire way forhomeowners to deal with these threats.

Home Carpet One in Chicago offers a newly developed installation system that addresses all of the major concerns above. The healthier living installation system that is offered exclusively at Carpet One stores across America has been developed to increase the indoor air quality of your home by reducing the chance for dust mites and bacteria to be present.

The healthier living installation system has three major components:

-the healthinex spray which is sprayed on the sub floor before the pad is laid down

-the anti-microbial pad, a pad that has a spill bloc that keeps spills from seeping through to the floor and prevents the growth of mold and mildew

-the homecare guard system that includes covertrax shoe covers for the installers to wear in the case that they have to leave the room, the shoe covers are worn so that outside dirt is not tracked into the space. The installers also tape off the room being carpeted so that any debris that comes up from the removal of the old carpet is contained and does not travel into other parts of the home.

Don’t be afraid to choose carpeting for your home. Even though there are risks and potential negative consequences to carpet, Home Carpet One can help guarantee that you are satisfied with the carpet you choose and the safety of your home and family.

If you’re handy around the house, you may have thought about doing your own carpet installation. And as the leading provider of all kinds of flooring products in Chicago, we have worked with many customers who have the skills, tools, and experience necessary for DIY installations, and it is possible for these projects to yield positive results. However, we have also worked with many customers who wanted to try a do-it-yourself approach, who ended up wasting a lot of their own time and money before realizing that they needed to hire professionals either to complete an unfinished job, or to fix a poor installation. That’s why we’d like to take this time to explain some of the reasons why self-installing carpet is generally a bad idea.

Carpet installation may seem like a relatively simple job, because unlike tile or hardwood jobs, a carpet installation doesn’t require dealing with lots of small, intricately-laid-out pieces. But in many ways, installing carpet is actually even trickier than other flooring jobs, and should be left to professionals if you want to protect your investment. The simple fact that carpet is sold by the roll starts to present challenges right away. Making sure you have ordered the right size roll of carpet may sometimes seem easier than it really is. Getting a roll of carpet that seems to be the right size can be harder than it seems unless your room is square or rectangular. You need to think about the shape of the room, corners, closets, and small areas that may also need to be finished that sometimes get overlooked.

The first time you try loading a massive roll of carpet into the backseat of a car, you’ll begin to understand that a tidy carton of tile actually seems much more manageable in comparison. Once you get the carpet inside, you’ll have to try to handle, measure, and cut those unwieldy rolls into the exact shapes and sizes that your room requires. Chances are, you’ll need to lay multiple pieces, which will need to abut each other extremely closely, and then you’ll have to disguise the seams. This process requires a great deal of specialized tools, some of which you’ll need to buy, some of which you’ll need to rent. If you’re not the kind of person who has a power stretcher, an industrial seam roller, and a seaming iron lying around the garage, you probably don’t want to jump into a DIY carpet installation.

Lastly, installing carpet is extremely hard on your knees and your back, and it takes at least a few people to get the job done. Unfortunately, if you don’t get it right the first time, it is very easy to see where mistakes were made, and a botched carpet job can be difficult and expensive to fix. Unless you’ve done a carpet installation before and you really know what you’re getting yourself into, you’re better off leaving it to the pros.

The exclusive installation practices utilized in the Healthier Living Installation System provide a cleaner and healthier environment, and it all starts the very first time our installation experts, all incorporated and fully insured sub-contractors, step inside your home (wearing protective booties so no dirt or grit is tracked in from outdoors). These practices include our HealthinEx Antimicrobial Pre-Installation Treatment, which prevents surface microorganisms from becoming airborne during your new carpet installation, and our Our HomeGuard Care System for old carpet removal, which includes HEPA vacuuming before and after installation to minimize dust and other irritants in the air.

The Healthier Living Installation also includes a premium anti-microbial carpet cushion that offers lasting health benefits and superior performance. This hypo-allergenic premium carpet cushion features a special technology called BioShield protection, which inhibits the growth of odor-causing mold, mildew, and bacteria underneath your carpet, keeping your home cleaner and smelling fresher. You’ll also benefit from this carpet cushion’s Spill Bloc technology, which provides 98 percent moisture resistance to keep spills (including pet accidents) from seeping through. Our premium antimicrobial carpet cushion is backed by our exclusive Forever Warranty, which guarantees that your carpet will never fail due to a loss of resiliency in your carpet cushion.

The next time you’re in a restaurant and are having a hard time hearing your dinner companion, look around. Chances are the floor and walls are hard surfaces, which mean that all the sounds made in the restaurant are just bouncing around without much opportunity for absorption.

Sound is transmitted by the vibration of air molecules. So, if you are surrounded by hard surfaces, any sound is reflected back into the room. Carpets, on the other hand, are extremely effective sound absorbers because the individual fibers, piles tufts and underlay have different resonant frequencies at which they absorb sound. In this respect, wool carpets are extremely effective, as the millions of wool fibers in an area of carpet have a range of lengths, diameters, crimps and spirality, which enables them to absorb sounds over a wider range of frequencies.

Typically, carpets can reduce airborne noise by 35%; however, tests of wool carpets of varying constructions produced an average noise reduction of 46%. With underlay, reductions of 50% to 70% were achieved. It is important to note that sound absorption will be lower if the carpet backing is too impermeable. The ultimate combination for noise absorption is a wool carpet with a wool underlay. Also, cut-pile carpet will absorb more than loop, because of the more open nature of its surface.

In addition to verbal noise we also generate surface noise. Surface noise in a room is the sound from footsteps, dropped objects and furniture movement. Bare tile floors produce 7-12 times more surface noise than carpets, which cushion the impact of the noise, absorbing and deadening the sound. This type of noise control is particularly important in busy restaurants and other locations where people need to be able to communicate amidst a lot of activity.

Overall, by reducing the noise levels and reverberation times, wool carpet improves a room’s acoustics, whether it is in a public facility or your home. Background noises disappear; speech comprehensibility increases and occupants automatically speak in a softer, more relaxed voice, rather than generating even more noise by trying to makes themselves heard above the sound around them.

Stop into Home Carpet One and take a look at the selection of fine wools we have to offer in our Chicago wool carpeting showroom.

There are 4 basic considerations when selecting new carpeting, not in any particular order; price, color, style and function. In today’s blog I am going to concentrate on the latter two.

The function of the carpet will vary depending on what areas of the home you are covering, for instance high traffic areas such as hallways and stairs require a tighter lower pile so as to resist the crushing and matting, pattern or multicolored carpets will help in hiding the every day soiling that is unavoidable.

The type of yarn is most important as the properties of the different synthetics will greatly affect the performance; nylon, in particular, the Stainmaster fiber; offers the durability and cleanabilty that will insure a long and happy relationship with your purchase. Other synthetics such as olefin aka polypropylene (poor cleanability) and polyester (less durable) will not perform nearly as well as its nylon counterpart.

Stainmaster carpets offer a wide selection of styles, many of which are represented in our Stainmaster Flooring Center. The Stainmaster Ultra and Active Life items have enhanced stain warrantees for those with active households and are often the best choice for lower level family rooms and children’s bedrooms. A more expensive option would be a wool product.

Wool; the finest of carpet fibers offer superior durability and will maintain an appearance of being brand new after many years of use and cleaning. Wool being a natural fiber is the most environmentally friendly choice and is offered in a wide variety of patterns and styles to satisfy every décor. Although wool carpets are not stain resistant nor do they carry the warrantee’s of the synthetics; the comfort and beauty that are afforded are well worth strong consideration especially in highly visible areas of the home such as the main stairway. Area rugs fabricated from wool products are also a more affordable yet stylish and durable option for any Chicago living space.

In closing, myself and my associates welcome the opportunity to help each and every client with their particular needs and desires in order to enhance the function and beauty of your home.

At Home Carpet One we strive for 100% customer satisfaction…Read below about Joan, one of many recent and satisfied tile installation customers. Joan had this to say about Home Carpet One,

“Yes, I am very satisfied. The installation of the tile in my bedroom hallway and the adjoining bathroom was completed today, and I am very satisfied with the work.

Greg, the tile installation professional was fantastic…His work was beautifully executed, as I requested….He was exceptionally neat during the process, and the clean-up was immaculate….I was grateful that he arrived on time and worked diligently until the job was completed. I can’t say enough about his work.

The rug installer was able to adjust the height of the rug to the height of the tile, and completed that job beautifully. He, also, was prompt, arriving first thing in the morning…a job well done.

Tony arranged for the tile person to come when the original one, who was scheduled, could not, keeping me from being very disappointed. He answered my calls promptly and supervised with intelligence.

All in all, I would recommend Home Carpet to anyone who asks about tile and/or carpeting. ”
